A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.
Job Summary We are seeking a passionate and dedicated In Person Self-Contained Special Education Teacher to join our dynamic educational team. In this role, you will provide comprehensive, individualized instruction to students with diverse learning needs within a self-contained classroom setting. Duties Design and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) aligned with state regulations and best practices for students with disabilities Deliver engaging lessons across core subjects such as literacy, math, science, and social studies, incorporating instructional modifications and accommodations as needed Utilize educational technology and learning tools to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes Manage classroom behavior through positive behavior management strategies and behavioral therapy techniques Collaborate with speech therapists, occupational therapists, behavior analysts, and other specialists to support student development Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, challenges, and achievements Assess student progress through standardized testing, formative assessments, and ongoing observations to inform instruction and report findings accurately Skills Extensive knowledge of special education law, IEP development, and educational compliance standards Proficiency in curriculum development tailored for students with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), visual impairments, or other special needs Strong classroom management skills combined with effective behavior management strategies for students with behavioral health challenges Experience working with children across early childhood education levels including preschool and toddler care settings Ability to integrate educational technology tools for instruction and assessment purposes Excellent communication skills for collaborating with colleagues, parents, and external specialists Familiarity with applied behavior analysis (ABA), speech therapy techniques, music therapy applications, and recreational therapy methods to support holistic student growth Knowledge of instructional design principles for individualized instruction in special education environments Join us in creating an inspiring classroom where every child is empowered to succeed!
