SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

The primary responsibility of the Criminal Justice Teacher is to plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program in a secondary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential; Performs instructional and related duties in accordance with District policies and terms of the teacher contract. The Teacher also maintains a cooperative attitude with staff, parents, and students.

REQUIRED

Valid Colorado Teaching License or CTE Authorization within 60 days from date of hire

Secondary CTE Law Enforcement Services Endorsement or

Teacher must be highly qualified in applicable content area through the following options:

Content Knowledge (Applicants must have A or B):

A. 24 semester hours of related postsecondary coursework verified on an official transcript to include a minimum of 3 semester hours of content coursework in four of the areas listed in the table below. OR

B. Applicants who provide a valid and current state

  • or national industry license or certification in the appropriate occupational area may have the content coursework waived by the Colorado Department of Education (e.g., Police Officer, Standards and Training (POST), National Academy of Emergency Dispatchers (NAED)).
  • This does not include teacher licenses.

Occupational Experience (Applicants must have either option 1, 2 or 3): Credit for student teaching up to 800 hours, in the content area, may be applied to either occupational or teaching experience

1. If you hold a Bachelor's degree or higher: 2,000 hours of verified occupational (non-teaching) experience in the content area within the last seven years OR

2. If you hold less than a Bachelor's degree: 4,000 hours of verified occupational (non-teaching) experience in the content area within the last seven years OR

3. 3 years verified teaching experience in the content area within the last seven years (full-time is defined as 51% or more of a teaching schedule dedicated to teaching in the content area).

Employee must complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check and must be cleared by the Office of Human Resources

Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary

PREFERRED

Bachelor's Degree in Criminology/Criminal Justice

P.O.S.T Certification

NAED (National Academy of Emergeny Dispatchers) Certification

Experience working in law enforcement/corrections

CTE Certified

Previous experience as a certified teacher

Knowledge of content standards and implementation of standards-based curriculum

Ability to teach and meet the academic needs of all students ensuring academic progress in all content areas especially in reading/writing and mathematics

Ability to collaborate with all instructional staff

Previous experience to use data to make instructional decisions

Knowledge/experience with the five components of reading and commitment to support and implement explicit and systematic reading instruction, based on scientific research

Ability to use technology and integrate technology skills into the curriculum

Knowledge / experience teaching the diverse learner especially students who may have a specific learning plan such as an IEP, ILP, ELL, 504, etc.

Demonstrated effective classroom management skills

Knowledge /experience with and ability to implement scientific-based research best practices

Previous experience with and ability to utilize effective small groups and whole class direct instruction strategies to differentiate instruction

Knowledge / experience in implementing the Title I parental involvement plan

Knowledge / experience with Positive Behavior Support Program or willing to implement the school-wide discipline plan

Knowledge and understanding of Common Core standards

Ability to analyze and use multiple data sources to make sound instructional decisions
