Job Description

Student teacher will experience a hands-on teaching internship as a final requirement for a teaching degree. They will work with a mentor teacher to learn and practice the art of teaching, which includes gradually taking on more responsibility for planning and conducting classes. Key aspects of student teaching involve professional conduct, classroom management, lesson planning, and adapting to a real school environment. The student teacher may apply for a substitute authorization with CDE and be eligible to sub for their mentor teacher if they are absent. To be considered for a student teaching placement in one of our schools you must: be entering your final semester of a teacher preparation program complete the Weld RE-4 Student Teacher Application pass a criminal background check, including submitting a complete set of fingerprints with Weld RE-4 prior to the start of your student teaching semester. (Detailed instructions will be emailed to the student teacher once their application is completed and a successful student teaching placement has been confirmed) Or have your fingerprints on file with CDE be enrolled in a college/university that has a signed student teaching agreement with Weld RE-4 Placements will be done based on the following criteria: availability of qualified staff/teacher(s) in requested areas willingness of schools to take a student teacher outcome of student teacher interview between principal, cooperating teacher, and prospective student teacher Every effort will be made to place student teachers at their requested location or with the requested cooperating teacher who will provide proper mentoring and supervision. However, if the request cannot be met, Human Resources will forward the request to all remaining schools that are accepting student teachers in the subject/level, unless requested otherwise. College/university program coordinators and supervisors are encouraged to make contact with individual principals and teachers once student teacher placements have been confirmed to answer any specific program questions or to schedule cooperating teacher training sessions. Student teachers or representatives of the requesting programs should NOT contact teachers or principals directly. Weld RE-4 School District does not place student teachers in paid internships.
