Job Description

Special Education Teacher

  • Social Emotional Behavioural (SEB) Classroom
    We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Special Education Teacher to lead a structured, supportive classroom environment for grades 3-5.

In this role, you will work with students whose emotional and behavioural needs require targeted interventions to access learning. This is an in-person, on-site contract position running through October.

Schedule:

8:20 AM

  • 3:40 PM, Monday to Friday
Setting:

In-Person / On-Site Only

Grade Levels:

3rd to 5th Grade

Caseload:

7 Students

Duration:

Short-term contract for October (with potential extension)

Key Responsibilities

Classroom Leadership:

Lead a highly structured behaviour-support classroom, implementing consistent daily routines and expectations.

Behavioural Interventions:

Use evidence-based approaches (such as Positive Behavioural Interventions and Supports

  • PBIS) to promote emotional regulation, safety, and readiness to learn.
Targeted Instruction:

Deliver specialized, differentiated instruction tailored to the academic and social-emotional levels of grades 3-5.

IEP Management:

Formulate, implement, and track Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) alongside targeted behaviour intervention plans.

De-escalation Support:

Provide active de-escalation support and crisis intervention strategies when students experience emotional overwhelm.

Team Collaboration:

Partner closely with school psychologists, social workers, behaviour specialists, and administration to monitor student progress and maintain a cohesive continuity of care.

Requirements & Qualifications

Education & Certification:

Holds or is eligible for a valid state teaching certificate with a K-12 Special Education Endorsement.

Experience:

Proven experience teaching or supporting students who have moderate-to-severe emotional and behavioural needs.

Skills:

Exceptional skills in de-escalation, behaviour modification data tracking, and active collaboration.

Position Type:

Salary:

$40 to $45 Per Hour
