A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Requirements Proven experience working with children in educational or childcare settings, including preschool or daycare environments. Strong knowledge of childhood development stages, behavior management techniques, and early intervention strategies. Experience with curriculum development across multiple subjects such as literacy, math, physical education, and special education. Classroom experience demonstrating effective classroom management and lesson planning skills. Ability to communicate clearly with children, parents, and colleagues while fostering positive relationships. Knowledge of early childhood education frameworks. Certification or training in early childhood education or special education is highly desirable.
