Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Make a meaningful impact supporting students in a self-contained social-emotional classroom for grades 3 through 5. This contract position offers the chance to empower young learners with unique and diverse needs, working within a dynamic elementary school setting close to Wallingford, CT. You'll work alongside a passionate staff, focusing on specialized instruction tailored to each student's social, emotional, and academic growth.
Qualifications:
Valid Connecticut Special Education PK-12 Licensure (065, 165, or 265 required) Experience teaching special education strongly preferred Master's Degree in Special Education or related field preferred Background working with elementary grades (3rd, 4th, or 5th) Familiarity with strategies for emotional regulation, behavior intervention, and inclusive practices Superior communication, organizational, and team collaboration abilities Dedication to fostering a nurturing, positive classroom environment
Responsibilities:
Deliver targeted instruction within a self-contained classroom for students with social-emotional needs, grades 3-5 Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavioral support plans Collaborate closely with classroom staff, related service providers, and families to optimize student progress Model and reinforce appropriate social-emotional skills throughout the daily curriculum Track and document student progress with timely, accurate reporting Participate in parent meetings, team consultations, and professional development opportunities Support the school's commitment to inclusive and equitable education practices Enjoy a consistent weekday schedule, Monday through Friday, totaling 35 hours per week. Compensation for this contract role falls within a competitive $38-$52 per hour range, reflecting experience and qualifications.
