GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A Bethlehem Elementary School Special Education Teacher works collaboratively with colleagues and parents to effectively develop and implement individualized education plans for students with special needs to ensure their continued growth and increased access to grade level curriculum across their classes. Bethlehem Elementary School teachers are leaders in their fields and specialize in meeting students' needs in and across a variety of State and National Standards. Bethlehem Elementary School classroom teachers work with their instructional leaders and Special Education colleagues to continually develop research-based lessons that meet the needs of all students. A commitment to researching and implementing effective and dynamic instructional strategies is required. The candidate must demonstrate the following: Instruct in accordance with the Region 14 teacher job description Provide direct instruction to special education students across grade levels Oversee paraeducator staff relative to students on caseload Establish and maintain frequent communication with parents of students on caseload; Evaluate students as needed using standards based and curriculum based methods and employ a variety of instructional strategies to meet these needs Develop and evaluate measurable goals and objectives, collecting progress monitoring data and coding progress of goals and objectives. Attend PPTs and assist with conducting functional behavioral assessments and designing behavior intervention plans Consult and collaborate with teachers, related service staff, student service support staff and administrators in understanding and meeting the needs of students in the school setting and in the best interest of the students Pursue continuous professional growth to stay abreast of changes in the field Participate in professional learning opportunities provided by the district and incorporate new learning into instructional practices Perform additional duties, where appropriate, which are assigned within the scope of employment and certification
