Position Summary:
The Secondary Special Education Teacher of Students with Disabilities provides specialized instruction and support to ensure students with disabilities access the general education curriculum and make meaningful academic and behavioral progress. This role includes co-teaching in general education settings and/or delivering instruction in self-contained classrooms, serving as a case manager, developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and collaborating with educators, administrators, and related service providers. The teacher works to create inclusive, supportive learning environments while upholding district policies, state and federal regulations, and the district's instructional goals.
Qualifications:
Special Education Teacher of Students with Disabilities in accordance with 14 Del. C. § 1571 required Additional Secondary content certification in any area preferred, but not required.
Performance Responsibilities:
This list is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge, or ability associated with this role but is intended to accurately reflect the principle job elements. Act as co-teacher in the general education classroom setting and/or serve students in a self-contained classroom setting. Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district. Serve as a case manager for students who receive special education services. Participate in IEP meetings, create students' IEPs and discuss in meetings. Facilitate implementation of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) within the general classroom setting. Work with school psychologists, administrators and IEP Team to develop and implement effective programming for students. Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved. Collaborate with the general education teacher to differentiate instruction and provide accommodations as afforded by the IEP. Record and maintain data records for students who receive special education services. Strive to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Evaluate student progress on a regular basis. Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policies and administrative regulations. Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and Board policies. Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students. Provide for his or her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning. All other duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment:
Ten-month (10) full-time employee.

Performance will be evaluated annually according to the Board's policy on professional personnel evaluation.
