Veteran Preference Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited educational institution. Certified or qualified in accordance with the Florida Statutes and State Board Rules; endorsement in orientation mobility, preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of child development and of characteristics of children in grades Pre-K through 12th. Knowledge of the prescribed curriculum for grades Pre-K through twelfth including Braille format and reading. Knowledge of current educational research relating to the education of students with visually impairments. Knowledge of the Code of Ethics and Principals of Professional Conduct. Ability to use current technology. Knowledge of learning styles and skill in using varied teaching methods to address student learning styles. Skill in oral and written communication. Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness. Ability to assess levels of student achievement, analyze test results and prescribe actions for improvement. Ability to maintain appropriate student supervision so that students have a safe and orderly environment in which to learn. Ability to work with peers, administrators and others. Knowledge of Braille technology, low vision aide and assistive devices. Ability to read and interpret medical reports of eye conditions. Ability to provide instruction for state of alertness and safe manner.

Responsibilities:

• Create or select short and long-range plans and write student's annual IEP based on a review of district and state curriculum priorities, instructional priorities and student's disability.
• Implement each student's IEP and document student progress.
• Revise plans based on student needs.
• Collaborate with students, parents, school staff and other appropriate persons to assist in meeting student needs. Provide leadership for staffing and IEP Meetings.
• Facilitate mainstreaming and inclusionary opportunities.
• Provide learning experiences based on each students IEP goals and objectives and present materials at the appropriate level for each student.
• Work as a team member with occupational, physical and speech/language therapist and implement recommendations to meet student needs.
• Provide for assisting students in daily living needs, such as toileting, feeding and personal hygiene.
• Establish appropriate low-vision testing environment and ensure test security.
• Develop and us low-vision assessment strategies to assist the continuous development of learners
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of curriculum content from Pre-K to High School.
• Plan, prepare, and conduct a variety of learning activities considering students' learning styles and special needs in order to enhance the application of critical, creative and evaluative thinking capabilities of students
• Select, develop, modify and/or adapt materials, technology and resources to support learning objectives and address students' learning styles and special needs.
• Define goals and objectives for unit and daily plans.
• Identify specific intended learning outcomes which are challenging, meaningful and measurable.
• Apply principles of learning and effective teaching in instructional delivery.
• Maintain academic focus by using a variety of motivational techniques.
• Provide quality work for students which is focused on meaningful, relevant and engaging learning experiences.
• Sequence content and activities appropriately.
• Maintain instructional momentum with smooth and efficient transitions from one activity to another.
• Provide instruction on safety procedures and proper handling of materials and equipment.
• Assist students in assessing, interpreting and evaluating information from multiple sources.
• Encourage self-assessment by students and assist them in developing plans for improving their performance, as appropriate.
• Monitor learning activities and provide feedback to students about the appropriateness of responses and quality of work with a focus on improving student performance.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of instructional units and teaching strategies.
• Interpret and use data (including but not limited to standardized and other test results) for diagnosis, instructional planning and program evaluation.
• Develop and use ongoing assessments to monitor student progress to verify that learning is occurring to adjust curriculum and instruction.
• Administer tests, including standardized tests, in accordance with directions provided, including proctoring and secure handling of materials.
• Communicate high learning expectations for all students.
• Foster student responsibility, appropriate social behavior, integrity, appreciation of cultural diversity, and respect for self and others by role modeling and learning activities.
• Communicate orally and in writing, with other professionals, students, parents and community.
• Provide accurate and timely information to parents and students about academic and behavioral performance of students.
• Write or participate in the formation of student IEP or 504 Plans or any other learning plans based on individual student needs.
• Establish routines and procedures and encourage students to follow them consistently.
• Maintain appropriate discipline and effective behavior management techniques.
• Demonstrate positive interpersonal relationships with students, peers, supervisors, and school/community.
• Collaborate with students, parents, school staff and other appropriate persons to assist in meeting student needs.
• Work with other teachers in curriculum development, special activities and sharing ideas and resources.
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of curriculum content.
• Engage in continuing improvement of professional knowledge and skills, including instructional methodology, learning theory, curriculum trends and content.
• Develop and implement a Professional Development Plan annually in accordance with state and/or district requirements.
• Demonstrate punctuality and regular attendance.
• Assist in enforcement of school rules, administrative regulations and Board policy.
• Comply with policies, procedures and programs.
• Act in a professional and ethical manner and adhere at all times to the Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct.
• Establish and maintain a positive, safe and non-threatening learning environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
• Support school improvement initiatives by active participation in school activities, services and programs.
• Manage materials and equipment effectively.
• Instruct and supervise the work of volunteers and aides when assigned.
• Supervise students at all times to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
• Maintain a clean, attractive and organized learning environment.
• Maintain accurate and complete records in accordance with District procedures.
• Maintain confidentiality of student and other professional information.
• Maintain student grade, attendance, and conduct records in accordance with established procedures.
• Recognize overt indicators of student distress or abuse and take appropriate intervention, referral, or reporting actions. Perform other duties as assigned.
• Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

Essential Performance Responsibilities Requirements:

Light Work:

Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
