The ideal candidate has experience working with young adolescents (grades 6-8) navigating mild-to-moderate learning disabilities. In this role, you will collaborate closely with general education teachers and our support staff to create an inclusive, nurturing, and intellectually stimulating environment where neurodivergent students can thrive academically and socially during these critical transitional years.
Key Responsibilities Differentiated Instruction:
Assist in planning and implementing modified lesson plans tailored to the unique academic and developmental needs of middle school students with learning disabilities.
Targeted Support:
Provide intentional one-on-one or small-group interventions within the classroom to reinforce core concepts in subjects like math, reading, and science.
Executive Functioning Coaching:
Support students in developing essential middle school skills, including organization, time management, study habits, and self-advocacy.
Social-Emotional Mentorship:
Guide pre-teens through social-emotional hurdles, helping them build positive peer relationships and conflict-resolution skills.
Data & Progress Monitoring:
Track, document, and analyze student progress toward goals or learning benchmarks; communicate regularly and professionally with therapists, other teachers, administrators, and parents.
Collaborative Teamwork:
Actively participate in department meetings, reviews, and professional development opportunities focused on diverse learning strategies.
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Special Education, Middle School Education, Psychology, or a related field (preferred) .
Certification:
Valid State Teaching Certification or Exceptional Student Education (ESE) endorsement (or willingness to obtain) .
Experience:
Previous experience working with middle-school-aged youth, particularly those with ADHD, dyslexia, autism, or other specific learning disabilities.
Key Traits:
High emotional intelligence, patience, strong classroom management skills, and the ability to connect authentically with pre-teens.
Knowledge Base:
Familiarity with middle school curriculum standards, differentiated learning modalities, and positive behavioral intervention strategies.
