A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Responsibilities Develop and implement engaging curriculum plans aligned with early childhood education standards, including literacy, math, physical education, and social skills. Conduct assessments of children's progress using standardized testing methods and document their growth in areas such as childhood development and preschool readiness. Communicate regularly with parents or guardians to share updates on their child's progress, behavior, and developmental milestones, fostering strong partnerships. Ensure compliance with mandated reporting laws related to child welfare and safety; respond promptly to any concerns or incidents. Incorporate early intervention techniques to support children with special needs or developmental delays, collaborating with specialists when necessary. Maintain a safe, clean, and stimulating learning environment that encourages curiosity, physical activity, and social interaction among children. Requirements Prior experience working with children in preschool or daycare settings; classroom experience is highly preferred. Knowledge of early childhood education principles, including child development instruction, curriculum development, and classroom management. Certification in first aid and CPR; familiarity with mandated reporting laws is essential. Strong communication skills to effectively engage with children, parents, colleagues, and community partners. Experience with special education practices, early intervention strategies, and behavior management techniques. Ability to plan lessons that incorporate literacy education, math concepts, physical education activities, and social-emotional learning. Demonstrated understanding of childhood development stages and best practices in childcare settings.
