Job Summary

• The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) -Georgia Academy for the Blind is recruiting for an experienced Special Education Teacher fir students with multiple disabilities in self-contained classroom settings.
• Applicants should hold or be eligible for a certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission in the area of Special Education Adapted Curriculum Consultative and must meet the definition of Highly Qualified as defined by NCLB.
• Provides a comprehensive educational program to meet the needs of students who are visually impaired or multi-disabled in a residential school setting.
• Responsibilities include assessing and documenting students' educational needs to develop and implement appropriate instructional plans; developing appropriate instructional materials; integrating assistive technology into classroom activities; and utilizing innovative and research-based instructional techniques and practices.
• These positions will teach visually impaired/multi-disabled students in Early Childhood (P-5), Middle Schools (4-8), or High School. Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to

Minimum Qualifications Must possess or be eligible to obtain a Georgia Teacher Certificate in Special Ed. Adaptive Curriculum and in Special Education for the Visually Impaired. Must have knowledge of Alternative/Augmentative Communication (A/AC) and basic understanding of the use of computer technology for multi-disabled learners. Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:

• Master's degree in Visually Impaired (K-12) Background in visual disabilities, mental retardation, behavior disorders, or interrelated special education, cognitive disabilities, autism, orthopedic impairments, and other sensory disabilities.
• Classroom experience with visually impaired or multi-disabled children
• Elementary or Secondary academic certification
• Experience working with visually impaired or special needs students
