The teacher must be able to develop and implement differentiated lessons by ability level and learning style that are hands-on, interactive, and aligned with the Georgia Standards of Excellence. This teacher will also ensure compliance with all state and federal policies related to special education services. Additionally, the teacher must be able to promote a classroom environment that recognizes and appreciates diversity. Responsibilities
- Providing instruction based on the museum school model, guidelines for differentiating curriculum, and best practices
- Developing and implementing lessons and activities based on individual needs and learning styles
- Following students' IEPs closely, ensuring complete implementation regarding setting, goals, and accommodations
- Providing general education staff special education strategies to be implemented in the classroom
- Planning collaboratively with school staff and museum staff to develop thematic units, schedule
- Learning Expeditions, and prepare for Exhibit Nights
- Analyzing data to determine individual students' areas of strength and areas in need of improvement and using this data to influence instructional decisions
- Monitoring student progress through formal and informal assessments
- Monitoring personal progress through reflection and creation of Professional Growth Plan
- Implementing a pro-active, consistent, and effective classroom management system
- Participating in Professional Development workshops and opportunities Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Georgia certification in appropriate field of education
- Experience integrating curriculum, Georgia Standards of Excellence, and effective instructional practices
- Experience working with K-8 students with special needs
- Experience creating standards-based lessons, units, and assessments
- Excellent organizational, planning, and implementation skills
- Effective written and oral communication skills Preferences
- Degree in the field of education
- Gifted certification
- Knowledge of and experience implementing various instructional and teaching methodologies
- Experience working with a diverse student population
