Starting at $50/hour (dependent on experience) Position Overview Birch Agency is seeking a dedicated and qualified Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to support students in an in-person middle school setting in Douglasville, Georgia . This opportunity is ideal for a TVI who is passionate about helping students with visual impairments access the general curriculum, develop independence, and build the academic and functional skills necessary for success. The TVI will work directly within the school environment and collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, administrators, families, and related service providers to ensure students receive appropriate specialized instruction, accommodations, and accessible learning materials. Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and vision-related goals. Conduct or assist with Functional Vision Assessments (FVAs) and Learning Media Assessments (LMAs), as appropriate. Adapt instructional materials into accessible formats, including Braille, large print, tactile graphics, and digital formats . Provide specialized instruction and compensatory skills to help students successfully access the curriculum. Support students in the use of assistive technology and adaptive equipment. Teach strategies that promote independence and successful participation in the classroom and school environment. Consult with classroom teachers and staff regarding accommodations, accessibility, and instructional strategies. Collaborate with families and related service providers to address student needs. Participate in IEP meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, and professional development. Monitor student progress and maintain accurate service documentation. Ensure compliance with applicable Georgia, district, and federal special education requirements. Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education of the Visually Impaired, Special Education, or a related field . Valid Georgia certification/credential as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility to obtain certification. Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired is a plus. Experience working with middle school students is a plus. Knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, accessible instructional materials, and specialized teaching strategies . Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
