A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Essential Job Responsibilities-Performance Indicators Minimum Requirements:
Associate of Arts/Science or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, or closely related degree. Prefer a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education Prefer Iowa State Licensure (may be required for some positions) No prior experience is necessary. Prefer experience in Head Start, daycare, or school setting.
Computer Skills:
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite & database systems Valid Iowa Driver's License & ability to be insured under agency policy Must be cleared & allowed to work in a childcare setting by the Iowa Department of Human Services
