Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting young learners in a K-2 special education classroom. This role is designed for an experienced educator passionate about serving students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), including those who utilize Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices. You'll work with a small class—currently nine students, with a maximum of ten—ensuring personalized instruction and meaningful connections. You'll be supported by dedicated classroom paraeducators, a collaborative principal, and an on-site Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), fostering a nurturing and team-oriented environment. Your expertise will be invaluable as you nurture student growth, social-emotional development, and communication skills throughout the extended school year.
Qualifications & Experience:
Valid Special Education Teacher certification for the state Extensive background working with students with ASD Experience implementing AAC device instruction and supports Strong classroom management and individualized differentiation skills Passion for early intervention and K-2 education Ability to collaborate closely with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and administration Excellent communication skills with students, families, and team members
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver differentiated instruction for a class of up to 10 K-2 students Collaborate with para support staff, principal, and SLP to create and adapt learning experiences Integrate AAC strategies and support student communication development Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals Track and document student progress, providing regular updates to stakeholders Foster a positive, inclusive, and structured learning environment This position begins October 12th or November 9th, running through the end of the school year—ideal for a dedicated educator seeking impactful, hands-on work in a supportive setting.
