Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding contract role supporting middle school students through meaningful education! This opportunity focuses on special education in a collaborative and encouraging school environment, located near Evanston, IL. Two full-time positions are available—one for teachers interested in self-contained classrooms with students from 6th, 7th, and 8th grade who may display behavioral challenges, and another in a 7th grade resource capacity. Your daily schedule will run from 7:50 am to 3:10 pm, affording the balance and consistency many educators value. In the self-contained setting, you'll work with approximately nine students, always supported by paraprofessionals who collaborate closely with you in the classroom. Whether in the resource or self-contained classroom, you'll find ample opportunity to use your creativity, compassion, and expertise to make a tangible difference.
Desired Qualifications:
Valid special education teaching credentials Experience or strong interest in working with middle school-aged students Skills in managing classrooms and supporting students with behavioral needs Ability to foster a positive, inclusive, and structured environment Comfort and skill in working alongside paraprofessionals as co-teachers Flexibility, empathy, and strong communication abilities
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver individualized and group instruction aligned to students' IEPs Collaborate closely with paraprofessionals, general education teachers, and support staff Maintain positive classroom management while implementing behavioral interventions as needed Develop engaging lesson plans that support both academic and emotional growth Monitor student progress and communicate effectively with families and team members This is your chance to support students who benefit from your guidance while enjoying a supportive atmosphere and a consistent, school-year schedule.
