Job Description

Make a meaningful impact supporting elementary learners as a Special Education Teacher in a welcoming school environment near Oak Park, IL. This is a full-time contract opportunity covering a leave assignment from August 24, 2026, through November 20, 2026. You'll guide a self-contained classroom of 4th and 5th grade students, with a focused roster of 8 to 10 learners, creating a supportive space where every child can thrive. Successful candidates will bring an understanding of individualized education, a proactive mindset, and a commitment to collaboration with families and colleagues.

Qualifications & Experience Sought:

Valid Special Education Teacher certification (Illinois or eligibility required) Experience or strong interest in teaching at the elementary level Expertise in IEP creation, documentation, and compliance Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt materials for varied learning needs Strong communication skills with students, parents, and educational teams Previous work in self-contained settings preferred In this role, you will: Deliver daily instruction to a small group of 4th and 5th grade students in a self-contained classroom Assess academic and social-emotional needs and tailor learning plans accordingly Facilitate IEP meetings and collaborate on goal development and progress tracking Foster an inclusive, encouraging classroom community Communicate regularly with families regarding student growth Ensure the classroom follows all district standards and best practices in special education This assignment is ideal for educators who thrive in supportive, student-centered environments, and who excel at navigating the unique dynamics of special education in elementary grades.
