The Cross Categorical Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing individualized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs, including but not limited to learning disabilities, developmental delays, autism spectrum disorders, and other health impairments. This teacher develops and implements Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and works collaboratively with general education teachers, parents, and other specialists to ensure that students receive appropriate educational services in the least restrictive environment. Responsibilities Develop and implement lesson plans that align with state standards and IEP goals. Use a variety of instructional strategies to support students' individual learning styles and needs. Provide instruction in academic, functional, behavioral, and social-emotional areas. Write, implement, and monitor IEPs for assigned students. Conduct formal and informal assessments to evaluate student progress. Participate in IEP meetings with parents, administrators, and related service providers. Create a positive, structured, and safe classroom environment. Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and use proactive behavior management techniques. Monitor and document student behavior and progress consistently. Work closely with general education teachers to support inclusion and co-teaching models. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and concerns. Coordinate services with speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and social workers. Stay informed of current best practices in special education. Attend staff meetings, professional development workshops, and training sessions. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for grades, attendance, and student behavior.
