JOB TITLE

Principal, Director of Special ServicesPOSITION PURPOSE
To provide services to complement and support the general education curriculum; to address curriculum needs of students with disabilities in the basic skills areas; to provide support services to students in general education, with the goal of developing socially and economically independent adults, and to provide consultation services to general education teachers.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. 1. Serves as a member of the multidisciplinary team to determine eligibility for the Learning Disabled (LD) program, the Mildly Mentally Disabled (MiMD) program, and the program for Emotionally Disabled via administering, processing, and interpreting achievement tests and by observing students in classrooms. 2. Assist other teachers, parents, and students by providing both written and verbal consultative services relative to students' strengths, weaknesses, and support services. 3. Develops and implements daily individual lesson plans based on the goals and objectives contained in the student's Individual Education Plans (I.E.P.'s). 4. Encourages effective development of elementary and secondary students via the utilization of diagnostic and prescriptive techniques designed to remediate processing deficits by teaching basic competency skills and the appropriate grade-level skills. 5. Adapts the curriculum for students with disabilities to enable subject areas to be taught; assists with career planning and preparation by facilitating appropriate academic and vocational programming at the secondary level. 6. Assists with the inclusion of students with disabilities in general education. 7. Develops and implements teaching strategies and student behavior modification programs designed to teach socially appropriate behavior and to foster self-motivation. 8. Assists students in establishing and maintaining satisfactory interpersonal relationships in the public schools. 9. Participates in long range planning, the development, and implementation of student IEP's. 10. Coordinates selected case conferences and annual case reviews via scheduling meetings, interpreting data, and writing case conference reports. 11. Coordinates system-wide services and responsibilities with appropriate administrative personnel. 12. Performs other reasonably related duties as may be assigned by the building principal.QUALIFICATIONS
1. Appropriate certification as required by the Indiana Department of Education. Bachelor of Science Degree Indiana Teaching License with emotional handicapped certification 2. Experience working with emotionally handicapped students 3. Ability to plan and organize. 4. Skills in human relations - Student-oriented. 5. Ability to communicate effectively before groups of students and parents. 6. Other qualifications as deemed desirable by the School Board.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
