Itinerant teacher providing services to students who are deaf/hard of hearing.
QUALIFICATIONS
Licensed to provide services for students with Hearing Impairments in the state of Indiana. Experience preferred. Knowledge of and expertise in various methods of oral and sign language communication for students with hearing impairments preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide in-service training to general education teachers, administrators, and support staff regarding hearing loss and specific student needs. Provide information about the student's I.E.P to all required personnel. Distribute and demonstrate correct usage of F.M. systems and other assistive devices at the beginning of the school year. Provide supervision and/or training for educational interpreters and observe and evaluate educational interpreters twice yearly. Attend monthly H.I. teacher meetings and bi-monthly H.I. team meetings. Provide needed assistive technology and in-service staff on its appropriate use. (FM systems, closed captions, Relay, TTY, etc.) Work with special education staff in the buildings to coordinate services (resource teachers, SLP
O.T., P.T.
) Work with WWS and building administrators for student based needs. Work with WWS educational audiologist to evaluate student eligibility for H.I. services and determine student amplification needs. Work with school psychologists and speech pathologists to obtain needed evaluations for three year re-evaluations. Communicate with parents, private audiologists and speech pathologists to meet student needs. Provide direct and consultative services to students per their I.E.P. Schedule yearly case conferences for students and coordinate needed staff to attend. Report progress on goals at regular intervals as required. Write new goals and adaptations as needed. Work with the members of the H.I. team, sharing ideas and resources with others.
