Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Make a real difference in the lives of children with special needs in a supportive, onsite setting near Lawrence, KS. We are seeking passionate Special Education Teachers for immediate contract openings, working through the end of May 2027. All roles are full-time (37.5 hours/week) at a single campus, allowing you to develop meaningful relationships and create a lasting impact.
Open positions include:
Middle School Teacher for students with emotional disabilities Middle School Teacher for students with functional and life skills needs Elementary Teacher supporting students with emotional disabilities
Desired Qualifications:
Valid Kansas Special Education Certification (KS SPED Cert) required Experience working with students who have emotional disabilities or significant life skills needs is highly preferred Strong classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to create and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) Collaborative mindset to work effectively with families, staff, and administration Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive learning environment for every student
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and adapt lesson plans to accommodate diverse learning needs and individualized goals Implement evidence-based instructional and behavioral strategies Monitor and document student progress, adjusting instruction as needed Maintain regular communication with parents, guardians, and multidisciplinary teams Participate in IEP meetings, professional development, and school initiatives Support students' social, emotional, and academic growth This is a contract opportunity offering a consistent workweek, single-site placement, and an immediate start, ideal for educators who thrive in dynamic, specialized classroom settings.
