Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Make a meaningful impact in the lives of students as a contract Special Education Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. This full-time opportunity invites dedicated professionals to support students' growth across Emporia Middle School and Northern Heights High School. You'll provide tailored instruction, fostering an inclusive classroom environment that meets a wide variety of learning needs, in a role where every day brings both challenge and reward.
Qualifications:
Current and valid Kansas Special Education teaching license Background in developing and implementing IEPs Experience collaborating with diverse teams, including general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers Strong communication skills for engaging with students, families, and colleagues Commitment to positive classroom management and differentiated instruction
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver specialized instruction to students with exceptionalities in accordance with their IEPs Adapt curriculum and use assessment data to modify teaching strategies Maintain progress records, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations Consult and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and participate in IEP meetings Encourage student independence, inclusion, and self-advocacy Establish a supportive classroom culture that promotes respect and learning for all This position is onsite only and offers a collaborative, supportive school environment where educators work together to positively shape students' educational experiences.
