A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Provide academic and/or vocational support to students in various classes Collaborate with school staff to help support students return to school after extended absences Assist students with make-up work, homework, test preparation, organization and use of technology Assist students with make-up work, homework, test preparation, organization and use of technology Proctor exams, quizzes and other assignments in settings deemed appropriate for individual students Track student progress utilizing the school's and/or individual teacher's data collection preferences Actively participate in school and/or department professional development activities Participate in meetings as requested Perform other duties as assigned by the special services director or principal
SCHEDULE/HOURS & COMPENSATION
School Year Position 7:30 am - 2:30 pm (183 days) $31,674
QUALIFICATIONS:
High level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information. Ability to effectively communicate with students, teachers and administrators. Strong regards to relationships, punctuality, flexibility, self-management and self-initiative skills.
