A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Harrington Elementary School Description:
- Design, supervise and implement students' IEP plans
- Instruct students using specialized curriculum programs/methodology
- Develop curriculum modifications and adaptations.
- Participate in IEP Team meetings.
- Write effective IEPs for students
- Collect and analyze student data and monitor student progress
- Effectively work with a team of professionals to coordinate services
- Consult with general education teacher and related service providers.
- Assist classroom teachers with instructional strategies to facilitate inclusion.
- Write quarterly progress reports for IEP goals that are data based on student performance.
- Administer various diagnostic achievement assessments (WIAT-III, Woodcock Johnson IV, Key Math, GORT 5, CTOPP etc) that identifies student capabilities as part of initial and reevaluation for students.
- Write effective evaluation reports summarizing findings and making recommendations for assigned students. Successful candidates will hold a Master's degree in special education from an accredited college or university MA DESE Teaching License
- PreK-8 Moderate Special Needs license is required Experience supporting/servicing students on the Autism Spectrum.
