JOB SUMMARY

The Rashi School, Greater Boston's Reform Jewish Independent School, serving students in grades Pre-K-8 seeks a Lower School Literacy Specialist to fill a parental leave from November 30, 2026 to June 10, 2027. Reporting to the Dean of Learning Support, the Lower School Literacy Specialist works with students and teachers so that all learners are supported and challenged. Rashi's Lower School uses a collaborative teaching model to promote students' academic, social, and emotional growth by nurturing an environment that promotes risk taking, flexibility, adaptability, empathy, and resilience through collaborative teaching which models behaviors of the adults. We seek to employ faculty and staff with diverse backgrounds who model these traits and our core values for our students and are eager to support Rashi in fulfilling its mission. The salary will be prorated from Rashi's base salary range of $52,000-$87,500.00 based on level of education and years of relevant experience.

RESPONSIBLITIES

Provide a mix of pull out and push-in support for decoding, encoding, fluency, reading comprehension, and written expression.

Collaborate with classroom teachers, other members of the Learning Team, and therapists from Gateways. Also, private evaluators, public schools for IEP process, reading tutors, outside OT and SLP providers, and therapists.

Oversee AIMSweb ELA testing in Grades PK-1

Oversee progress monitoring as needed in reading for Grades PK-1

Communicate with parents regularly.

Write progress reports twice a year for students on their caseload.

Participate in parent-teacher conferences.

Attend weekly or bi-weekly supervisory meetings.

Participate in bi-weekly grade level meetings. Share duties as assigned by the Assistant Heads of School.

Participate in writing Learning Plans and Summary of Evaluations (responsible for writing Current Levels of Performance and editing/adding to other sections)

Schedule and attend Learning Team Meetings (responsible for presenting Accommodations) Administer and score a variety of literacy based assessments to gather additional student information (CTOPP, WIST, Woodcock Johnson Reading Mastery Test, TOWL, etc)

Administer admissions screenings for prospective students

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field Masters Degree in Special Education or a related field preferred

At least 3-5 years experience working with students with learning differences.

Wilson certification preferred

Suitable criminal background check required.
