Job Summary We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and engaging Homeschool Educator to work one-on-one with a 3rd-grade student with Down syndrome in a home setting. This role combines academic instruction and life skills development , with a strong emphasis on creating a supportive, structured, and positive learning environment. Key Responsibilities Academic Instruction (Approx. 3 hours/day): Deliver individualized instruction in: Reading and language development Writing and communication Math (foundational and functional skills) Utilize hands-on, visual, and interactive teaching methods Incorporate online learning tools and educational apps Adapt lessons to meet the student's learning pace and needs Life & Social Skills Development (Approx. 2 hours/day): Support development of daily living skills (e.g., routines, organization, independence) Facilitate social skills such as communication, turn-taking, and emotional awareness Engage in structured play, real-world activities, and guided social interaction Support participation in community-based or at-home social learning opportunities

General Duties:

Maintain a consistent daily routine and positive learning environment Track progress and communicate regularly with parent/guardian Collaborate with therapy goals (speech therapy on Fridays, OT on Wednesdays—no direct therapy required, but reinforcement encouraged)

Qualifications Required:

Experience working with children with disabilities or special education needs; familiarity with accommodations and modifications. Background in special education, elementary education, or related field Patience, reliability, and a nurturing, energetic approach Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet individual learning needs Excellent communication skills for engaging students, collaborating with families, and working within a team of educational professionals. Skilled in using learning technology tools to facilitate interactive lessons both online and offline.

Preferred:

Experience with homeschool environments Prior classroom experience or homeschooling experience at the elementary level; familiarity with Montessori or other pedagogical approaches is a plus.
