Temporary Respite Caregiver -
Autism Support Location:
Elkton, MD Assignment Dates:
September 27 - October 5
Schedule:
Temporary / Short-Term | Morning Hours We are currently seeking a compassionate, dependable, and experienced Respite Caregiver for a short-term assignment supporting two young adult brothers with autism in their family home in Elkton, Maryland. This assignment will take place during the week of September 27 through October 5, while the parents are away. The family is specifically looking for someone who is comfortable working with adults with developmental disabilities and can provide a calm, safe, and supportive presence in the home. About the Individuals Both young men are mobile, gentle, affectionate, and personable. One individual is highly verbal and fairly independent with personal care and daily activities. He may need reminders and prompting with tasks such as preparing meals and staying focused on what he is doing. The second individual is minimally verbal and requires closer supervision. He needs prompting with meals and daily routines and has pica, so attentiveness to safety is especially important. Responsibilities Provide respite care and companionship in the family home Maintain a safe and comfortable environment Provide supervision, reminders, and prompting as needed Assist with meals and light food preparation if necessary Engage the individuals in appropriate activities and conversation Support independence while providing necessary supervision Follow the family's established routines and safety guidelines Communicate appropriately with family members regarding care There is no medication administration required during the scheduled daytime hours. Schedule The family is primarily seeking morning coverage during the September 27-October 5 timeframe, with a preference for: Tuesday morning Thursday morning The family already has personal care support available during the afternoon/evening hours, so coverage is primarily needed in the mornings. Qualifications Experience working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder strongly preferred Experience with Tourette's syndrome, pica, developmental disabilities, or minimally verbal individuals is a plus Experience supporting adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities preferred Patient, dependable, compassionate, and attentive Comfortable working in a family home Comfortable around dogs and cats Strong communication and observation skills Reliable transportation to Elkton, MD This is an excellent short-term opportunity for an experienced caregiver who enjoys providing individualized support in a relaxed family-home environment.
