A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.
Elementary/Middle School/High School Teacher (Level 5 SPED School) Position Overview We are seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to support middle school and/or high school students in one core subject area : English, Math, Science, or Social Studies. The SPED Teacher will provide individualized and small-group instruction aligned to students' IEPs and collaborate with school staff to ensure students receive appropriate academic and behavioral supports. Key Responsibilities Provide specialized instruction in one assigned subject area (English, Math, Science, or Social Studies) Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with applicable regulations Adapt curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessments to meet diverse learning needs Collaborate with general education teachers within the assigned subject area Monitor, document, and report student progress toward IEP goals Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and multidisciplinary team meetings Implement behavior intervention plans and positive behavior supports as needed Maintain a structured, supportive, and inclusive learning environment Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field Valid state certification in Special Education (or eligibility to obtain certification) Ability to teach or support instruction in one core subject area : English, Math, Science, or Social Studies Experience working with middle school and/or high school students Knowledge of special education laws, IEP development, and instructional best practices Preferred Skills & Attributes Subject-area strength in English, Math, Science, or Social Studies Experience with co-teaching or inclusion models Strong communication and collaboration skills Data-driven approach to instruction and progress monitoring Work Environment Middle school and/or high school setting Collaborative, student-focused school culture
