A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Pay Rate:
$37 to $41 per hour
Responsibilities:
Provide high-quality special education instruction that supports students' academic, social, and emotional growth Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards Adapt instructional strategies to meet diverse student learning needs Monitor and assess student progress, maintaining accurate documentation and grading records Participate in IEP meetings, behavioral planning, and multidisciplinary team meetings Maintain compliance with special education regulations and confidentiality requirements Establish and maintain a structured, safe, and supportive classroom environment Utilize approved behavior management, de-escalation, and intervention strategies Collaborate effectively with families, administrators, therapists, and support staff Supervise and lead classroom support personnel as needed Participate in professional development and school initiatives Qualifications Bachelor's degree or higher Active Maryland Special Education teaching license appropriate for the grade level served Ability to work with students requiring academic, behavioral, and emotional support
Preferred:
Master's degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field Two or more years of experience in a special education setting Experience working with students with emotional disabilities and/or autism Knowledge of IDEA and special education compliance requirements Bilingual Spanish/English skills Why Supplemental Health Care?
