The Pre-Engineering Teacher provides high-quality instruction in STEM and engineering-related content aligned with Maryland CTE standards and national engineering education frameworks. The teacher is responsible for delivering hands-on, project-based instruction that equips students with academic and technical skills necessary for careers in engineering, robotics, and advanced manufacturing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruct students in foundational engineering concepts through courses such as Introduction to Engineering Design (IED), Principles of Engineering (POE), or other Project Lead The Way (PLTW) or CTE-aligned programs. Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans that incorporate science, mathematics, and computer-aided design (CAD). Ensure a safe and organized lab environment, including oversight of equipment use, inventory, and maintenance. Engage students in authentic learning experiences, including engineering challenges, CTE competitions, and work-based learning. Collaborate with postsecondary partners and industry representatives to enhance real-world application of content. Maintain accurate student records and meet all programmatic and accountability requirements. Participate in ongoing professional development related to engineering, PLTW, and educational best practices. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or supervisor in accordance with Board policy.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in engineering, technology education, or a closely related field. Must be knowledgeable about Pre-Engineering IRCs, such as Autodesk certifications: ACU (Autodesk Certified User in Inventor, Autodesk Certified User in AutoCAD, Autodesk Certified User in Revit, Autodesk Certified User in Fusion 360) and Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA) certification. The goal is that every student enrolled in the Pre-Engineering program earns at least one IRC before completing the program. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Must hold or be eligible for a valid Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) certificate in Technology Education or CTE - Pre-Engineering. Candidates who do not currently hold a Maryland teaching certificate may be eligible for a Conditional Certificate if they meet degree or industry experience requirements and commit to pursuing certification in accordance with MSDE guidelines. Must be willing to attend and complete the PTLW training to teach the curriculum. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret educational and technical texts; write reports and instructional materials; and effectively present information to students, parents, and colleagues. Mathematical Skills Ability to apply concepts of algebra, geometry, and engineering mathematics in instruction. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems, interpret instructions in multiple formats, and apply logical reasoning to diverse classroom and lab scenarios. Computer Skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, CAD software (e.g., Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD), and other educational technology tools. Willingness to pursue training to remain current with software and industry trends. Other Skills and Abilities Ability to foster a supportive and engaging classroom climate, implement culturally responsive teaching, and motivate diverse learners. Other Qualifications Must demonstrate punctuality, professionalism, and commitment to student achievement. Regular attendance and effective communication with students, families, and staff are essential.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk, hear, and use hands to operate instructional tools or machinery. The employee is occasionally required to lift or move up to 25 pounds. Visual demands include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
