Job Description:

To support individual students with an IEP in maintenance of IEP skills to prevent regression over the summer break. This teaching position requires the development of lesson plans, parent contact, and to provide specially designed instruction based on the student's current IEP goals in Math, Reading, and/or writing at a K-5 level. 4

Weeks of Service:

TBD when teacher a is hired. Planning time is 40 minutes per day, no more than 1 hour and 20 minutes a week. Location is TBD (FCS school building or local library)

Summary:

The Teacher promotes and develops successful learning for students, performs instructional and related duties in accordance with District and Board Policies and terms of the teacher contract. The Teacher will also develop and foster relationships with staff, parents, students and the community.

Provide specialized, group and individualized educational instruction to Special Education students in general education through co-teaching, and in direct instruction in areas of disability outlined in the student's IEP. Communicate clearly with administration, staff and family members about the student's progress and struggles. Develops lesson plans and instructional material that are specific to students abilities in accordance with the district provided curriculum. Instruct and mentor students as a class, in small groups and one-on-one. Comprehend and impart the content of applicable subject and curriculum level to students. Communicates with students and parents regularly and clearly in an interactive way outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, emails, conferences, etc. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere. Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports and report cards. Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day. Complete all required special education documentation in a neat and timely manner. Speak, hear, see and write clearly with or without assistive device(s). Walk, stand for the full scheduled period, with minimal sitting options. Adhere to all Board and District policies Regular, predictable and physical attendance Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Superintendent

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate, with appropriate special education endorsement. Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with grade level teachers and with teachers across grade levels Familiarity with course content standards and expectations Willingness to learn and understand current educational strategies and curriculum Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness Basic understanding and knowledge of current technology and being able to incorporate it into the classroom.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in special education instruction Teach developmentally appropriate lessons following assigned curriculum guidelines Provide students with a safe and orderly environment for learning Ability to relate positively and communicate curriculum effectively with students, parents, staff and the community The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
