A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Minimum requirement of Bachelor degree in education Possess or be eligible for a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate - SA endorsement required Meet Highly Qualified requirements

CPI Training Preferred Duties:

Responsible for planning instruction and/or adaption of the education program to enable students to benefit from educational experiences. Instruct individuals and groups in special education skill areas. Plan curriculum, lessons, and special education programs and teaching methods. Evaluate student progress based on papers submitted, test scores and observation. Monitor student progress in and outside the special education room. Maintain the physical environment of the classroom. Maintain contact with parents of students. Evaluate student progress based on work output and observation, determine goals, objectives and directions. Prepare report cards, educational records, IEP forms, classroom observation records, and other forms. Perform other duties as assigned.
