Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract A full-time Special Education Teacher position is available for the upcoming school year in Andover, MN, focusing on high school students (grades 9-12). This contract role spans from September 2026 to Thanksgiving 2026, with working hours from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. The position centers on providing targeted reading intervention and supporting executive functioning skills within a structured learning environment. Responsibilities include managing a caseload of approximately 16-20 students, delivering instruction in reading intervention and study skills, and aiding students with academic organization and planning. Collaboration with general education staff and support teams is essential to create a cohesive learning atmosphere. The role also requires developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), tracking student progress, and ensuring adherence to state and district special education regulations. Qualifications for this role require a Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field and completion of a state-approved teacher preparation program in special education. Candidates must hold a valid Minnesota teaching license issued by the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board. Demonstrated competency in Standards of Effective Practice, core special education skills, and a relevant licensure area such as Learning Disabilities, ABS, or EBD is necessary. Completion of student teaching or practicum experience is also required. Preferred candidates will have experience working with high school students, expertise in reading intervention and executive functioning support, strong knowledge of IEP development and compliance, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team-based environment.
