A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Job Description

This job position is part time to work with a mostly nonverbal child with autism after school. The job duties involve creating an afternoon routine in order to assist with learning independent living skills such as getting dressed, eating dinner, using the bathroom, brushing teeth, fine motor development thru play, communication building with an assistive technology device etc. Hours are 4:15pm/4:30pm (when bus arrives) - 7:30pm Monday - Friday Off on all Federal holidays but open to the option of someone working for school out days as needed. References required. Must be able to pass a background check. Will need to pass a child abuse and neglect course online thru DMH Website. Experience working with special needs preferred.
