Fayetteville, NC Job Description A school district in Fayetteville, North Carolina is seeking a qualified Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) / Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist for a fulltime, schoolbased contract . This position serves K12 students and focuses on providing specialized instruction and mobility training to support independence, accessibility, and academic success. Candidates with experience in both vision services and orientation & mobility are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities Provide direct instructional services to students with visual impairments Deliver orientation and mobility (O&M) training , including travel skills, spatial awareness, and safe navigation Develop, implement, and manage Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned with student needs Conduct functional vision assessments and learning media assessments Adapt curriculum, materials, and classroom environments for accessibility Instruct students in compensatory skills , including Braille, assistive technology, and daily living skills Collaborate with teachers, administrators, related service providers, and families Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines Support student independence across school and community environments Qualifications Active North Carolina TVI certification and/or O&M certification (COMS preferred) or eligibility to obtain Ability to pass background checks, fingerprinting, and district clearances Licensing and credentialing support may be available for eligible candidates Education Bachelors or Masters degree in Visual Impairment Education, Orientation & Mobility, or a related field Experience Previous schoolbased experience working with students with visual impairments preferred Experience providing orientation and mobility services strongly preferred New graduates with appropriate certification are encouraged to apply Skills Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and mobility training techniques Excellent communication and collaboration skills Ability to adapt instructional materials effectively Strong organizational and documentation abilities Commitment to supporting diverse student populations Work Hours MondayFriday 8:00 AM 3:30 PM Approximately 3740 hours per week Compensation & Benefits This contract position offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, including: Weekly pay Competitive hourly compensation based on experience and credentials Medical, dental, and vision insurance options 401(k) retirement plan options Ongoing clinical and administrative support throughout the assignment Professional development and continuing education resources Opportunity for contract renewal or extension Housing and travel assistance for eligible candidates Equal Opportunity Employment All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status.
