Monthly Salary:

Teacher State Salary Schedule (plus local supplement)

Qualifications/Requirements:

Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina teaching license in appropriate licensure area. Adaptive Licensure Preferred.

Goal:

To provide each special needs student with the individually tailored help, counsel, and learning experience he/she needs to make progress toward educational goals established with the student's limitations in mind.

Duties:

Demonstrate knowledge of educational and exceptional children laws, rules, regulations, practices and trends in accordance with district, state, and federal regulations

Demonstrate knowledge of educational curricula, instructional methodology and techniques, technology, cognitive development of students and integration of these to promote student success of various disabilities

Maintain accurate and timely student records in accordance with the North Carolina Policies Governing Programs and Services for Children with Disabilities

Gather and record data on student progress toward academic and behavioral goals on the IEP on a timely basis

Develop and implement the IEP in classroom settings that are compatible with the student's age and developmental level

Develop lesson plans, adapting and modifying materials, collect and maintain documented evidence of student's progress through oral and written progress reports

Design activities to assist students with varied disabilities in the development of appropriate academic, functional, behavioral, and social skills to meet their IEP goals and objectives

Utilize formal and informal diagnostic assessment information to document student needs and services, as appropriate

Assist students with personal and self-help needs such as eating, toileting, and other essential tasks that the student is not able to perform

Collaborate and coordinate services with the General Education Teacher of the student

Treat all students in a fair and equitable manner; interact and communicate effectively with students, co-workers, staff, administrators, parents, and the community

Must be self-motivated, self-directed, collaborative, and flexible

Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities and demonstrate evidence of growth

Must be able to perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of forces frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
