Starting at $40/hour (dependent on experience) Position Overview Birch Agency is seeking a dedicated Exceptional Children (EC) Teacher to lead a specialized K8 classroom serving approximately 78 students with primarily developmental and/or intellectual disabilities. This is an excellent opportunity for an educator who enjoys working in a small, highly supported classroom environment and wants to take ownership of instruction, classroom management, and IEP case management. The classroom is expected to be located adjacent to or within a shared classroom suite , providing opportunities for collaboration with an existing EC teacher and team. A Strong Support System The new teacher will have a dedicated Teacher Assistant (TA) assigned to their classroom. The existing teacher will retain one TA, while the new teacher receives the other, providing additional classroom support throughout the day. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage a specialized K8 EC classroom. Provide individualized and differentiated instruction based on students' developmental and educational needs. Support students primarily with developmental disabilities and/or intellectual disabilities . Develop and implement instruction aligned with students' IEP goals. Manage students' IEPs and case management responsibilities . Conduct and participate in IEP meetings with families, school staff, and related service providers. Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation and progress reports. Implement appropriate accommodations, modifications, and behavioral supports. Provide effective classroom management and create a structured, supportive learning environment. Collaborate with the existing EC teacher and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Utilize the support of the classroom TA to promote student engagement, safety, independence, and academic growth. Help reduce the current caseload burden on the existing EC team by taking ownership of an additional classroom and student caseload. Qualifications Appropriate North Carolina Exceptional Children/Special Education teaching licensure or eligibility to obtain licensure. Adapted Curriculum licensure is not specifically required. Candidates with General Education and/or Special Education licensure may be considered , depending on their qualifications and the needs/disabilities of the students assigned to the classroom. Experience working with students with developmental or intellectual disabilities preferred. Experience in a self-contained, specialized, or adapted curriculum classroom preferred. Strong classroom management and individualized instruction skills. Ability to manage IEPs and effectively serve as a student's case manager. Strong communication, organization, collaboration, and documentation skills. Why This Opportunity?
