A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Special Education Teacher The Gateway School is a private special education school in Middlesex County, NJ, serving students ages 5-21 with developmental disabilities. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement engaging, individualized daily lesson plans Design and maintain effective behavior management programs in collaboration with support staff Train, supervise, and guide assigned teacher aides Organize and maintain classroom materials and communicate instructional needs to administration Maintain professional and consistent communication with parents/guardians Complete DLM assessments for identified students as needed Perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Principal Qualifications New Jersey Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) Certification and NJ Elementary K-6 Certification or NJ Teacher of the Handicapped (TOH) Experience working with students with autism , cognitive and/or emotional disabilities strongly preferred To apply, please email your resume to: jonesk@thegatewayschool.com crowemb@thegatewayschool.com
