Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Job Description

Bonnie Brae, a Special Education School and Residential Treatment Facility for at risk boys, is seeking a full-time Teacher capable of working in a team environment and willing to teach a variety of subjects as needed. Many of the students have struggled in school and have a variety of academic backgrounds and functioning levels. The Teacher must be creative, hardworking, flexible and able to engage students in hands-on learning. Starting salary between $53,000.00/year to $85,000.00/year, commensurate with experience and certification(s).
Candidates will possess the following:
Education /
Certification Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree.
Certificate:
CE, CEAS, Standard, TOSD or Teacher of the Handicapped (TOH).
  • Current letter of approval from the Office of Criminal History Review.
Knowledge / Skills
/ Abilities /
Experience:
  • Operates from a personal code of ethics.
  • Skilled in methods of effective classroom management.
  • Skilled in methods of managing student behavior.
  • Able to supervise students in structured and unstructured situations.
  • Capable of writing clear, informative, grammatically correct evaluative reports.
  • Capable of basic computer literacy.
