Job Description

Verona Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher for a full-year leave replacement position at HBW Middle School. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment, supporting students with diverse learning needs, and collaborating with staff, families, and the community. This role requires a proactive educator who can implement effective teaching strategies and monitor student progress to ensure academic and social success. Responsibilities (See attached job description for more information) Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the needs of all learners. Provide direct instruction to students with disabilities in both one-on-one and group settings. Monitor and evaluate student progress, adjusting instructional techniques and strategies as necessary. Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress, including documentation for IEP meetings. Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders regarding student progress and needs. Participate in IEP meetings, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities. Foster a positive and supportive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and self-advocacy. Work collaboratively with school staff and support personnel to provide a comprehensive support system for students. Implement behavioral management strategies and interventions as needed. Stay informed about current best practices in special education and relevant educational laws and policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate and additional certification as Teacher of Students with Disabilities (2475) or Teacher of the Handicapped (2470) Demonstrated knowledge of special education student needs and effective teaching methods Ability to maintain a positive learning environment Strong interpersonal and communication skills Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status Start date is August 31, 2026
