JOB SUMMARY

Prepares and serves breakfast, lunch and snacks to children in the Head Start and/or Early Head Start programs and takes on the responsibilities of a Co-Teacher to keep the classroom running smoothly while educating children in activities designed to promote social, physical, emotional and intellectual growth.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepares and serves food at proper temperatures and in appropriate serving dishes that are properly covered or packaged at the designated time(s); Establishes and maintains a safe, healthy learning environment, always including full supervision of infants and toddlers in the classroom. Guides and facilitates infant and toddler activities in the classroom that are developmentally, linguistically, culturally and age-appropriate to include circle time, mealtime, outdoor time, small group, large group, rest period, and hygiene/toileting activities. Fosters effective and collaborative relationships with coworkers, parents, volunteers and children in the classroom. Participates in the serving and clean-up of meals and snack meals while meeting CACFP requirements; Inspects and stores incoming food and supplies and manages inventory; completes monthly kitchen paperwork, including food production sheets and updates classroom menus; Maintains kitchen area in accordance with state and local food safety; storage and sanitation regulations; Ensures that classroom equipment, furniture, materials and supplies are properly maintained and stored in a safe manner. Provides a safe learning environment in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards; Demonstrates appropriate interactions with children based on positive guidance techniques; Performs other tasks and duties as assigned. Knowledge of childhood development services Effective interpersonal and oral communication skills Capacity and empathy to work with a diverse population, low-income families and children, including those with disabilities Ability to travel to Program and home sites Knowledge of Microsoft Office and data entry applications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:

High school diploma or GED; Child Development Associate (CDA) or willingness to obtain one within five months (company paid) and one-year related experience, preferably in a pre-school teaching environment; must be at least 18.

Preferred:

12 months of food service experience and some coursework in Early Childhood Education. Community Services Agency is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
