Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting students with diverse needs in a specialized educational setting. This contract position focuses on providing high-quality instruction within a self-contained classroom environment, serving K-12 students with significant disabilities, including level 3 autism, severe cognitive challenges, and complex communication needs. You'll be placed with an age group that matches your skillset to ensure the best possible fit.
Qualifications:
Valid New York State Special Education (Students with Disabilities) certification—or willingness to obtain/license in process Recent graduates or teachers with out-of-state certifications encouraged to apply; support for credential transfer available Preferred background working with students with level 3 autism, severe behaviors, and non-verbal/alternative communication users Experience with modifying curricula and administering alternative assessments highly valued Strong organizational skills for managing paperwork, IEPs, and individualized planning
Position Details & Responsibilities:
Contract role, Monday to Friday, 7:45 AM-3:15 PM (up to 40 hours per week approved for additional planning or paperwork) Initial two weeks dedicated to thorough training and onboarding Engage students in individualized instruction within 8:1:3 classroom ratios Collaborate with multidisciplinary staff to support students' academic, behavioral, and communication goals Adapt instructional strategies and materials to meet the unique learning profiles of each student Complete IEPs, maintain accurate records, and communicate regularly with families and team members Enjoy competitive compensation between $35 and $50 per hour for making a meaningful difference every day.
