A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Position Responsibilities As a Special Education Teacher, you will: Lead and manage a classroom serving students with autism. Develop and implement individualized instruction aligned with each student's educational goals. Create a structured, engaging, and supportive learning environment that promotes student growth and independence. Supervise, mentor, and collaborate with classroom teaching assistants. Partner with speech-language, occupational, physical, and behavioral professionals to support student success. Monitor student progress, maintain required documentation, and communicate regularly with families and interdisciplinary team members. Foster positive relationships while maintaining high expectations and a Neuro-affirming, trauma informed student-centered approach. Qualifications Required New York State Teacher Certification in one of the following: Early Childhood Education (Birth-Grade 2), or Childhood Education (Grades 1-6) (preferred) Bachelor's degree Preferred New York State Special Education Certification (Grades 1-6) Master's degree One or more years of classroom teaching experience Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
