Teacher of the Visually Impaired in Kingston, NY

Job Description

Make an impact supporting students with visual impairments in an educational setting near Kingston, NY. This contracted opportunity invites a compassionate, skilled professional to empower approximately 19 students by providing specialized instruction, resources, and guidance as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired. Your expertise will help foster independence, access, and success in the classroom. You will collaborate with staff to ensure appropriate accommodations, deliver targeted instruction, and offer valuable consults, all while developing meaningful relationships with students and their educational teams.
Key Qualifications:
Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) Experience serving children with visual impairments in school settings Proficiency in braille instruction and braille production Familiarity with orientation and mobility techniques Strong interpersonal, consultation, and organizational skills Ability to design individualized instructional plans and adapt materials
Primary Duties:
Deliver direct instruction to students with visual impairments, both one-on-one and in small groups Produce accessible materials in braille and other formats as needed Conduct regular consults with classroom teachers, therapists, and parents to optimize student learning Assess student progress and update goals tailored to individual needs Provide guidance and strategies in orientation and mobility, supporting students' independence throughout the school environment Document services and maintain thorough student records as required by regulations
