A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Job Description

Learning Together is a highly regarded preschool program serving children with and without special needs in an integrated setting. Preschool Children are taught by an early childhood Special Education Teacher with a team of 2 Teaching Assistants and are supported by a full staff of professionals. Learning Togethers staff include Speech Pathologists, OTRs, COTAs, PTs, PTAs, School Psychologists, Social Workers, School Nurses, an Instructional Leader, a Music Therapist and a BCBA. General Education Teacher responsibilities include:
Develop a teaching plan according to the child development and educational needs Improve social competencies and build self-esteem Encourage children to interact with each other and resolve disagreements Guide children to develop their artistic and practical capabilities through active exploration of the arts (identify shapes, numbers or colors, do crafts etc.) Organize classroom activities and supervise children to ensure they are safe at all times Track children's progress and report to parents Collaborate with other educators The successful UPK Teacher candidate possesses: Experience or high interest to work with preschoolers Familiarity with all facets of Preschool Special Education Experience with preschoolers within a classroom setting New York State Teaching Certification, Birth to Grade 2 Professional and Personal References required Teachers please send Learning Together a cover letter and full resume, including education, personal and work experience, and skills.
