What they do
A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

8:15 AM - 3:15 PM Full-Time / In Person Responsibilities Develop and implement individualized instruction aligned with each student's IEP goals and assessments Utilize Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and evidence-based teaching strategies throughout the school day Collect and analyze student data to monitor progress and guide instruction Create a structured, positive, and engaging classroom environment Collaborate with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, behavior specialists, school psychologists, families, and school districts Complete progress reports, CSE educational reports, and report cards Maintain accurate student documentation and data collection systems Support students in developing communication, academic, behavioral, and social skills Qualifications NYS Special Education Certification Required Experience working with children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders Knowledge and understanding of ABA principles and behavior management strategies within a trauma-informed framework Strong classroom management and collaboration skills Experience with data collection and progress monitoring preferred Teachers enrolled in a NYSED Internship Certification Program are welcome to apply New graduates are encouraged to apply!Pay:
