Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

09/10/2026 The Spencerport School District is currently accepting applications for a Special Education Teacher at Cosgrove Middle School.
Appointment:
Full-time; long-term substitute
Description:
6th grade
ICT Required Credentials:
N.Y.S. teacher certification- Special Education to cover 6th grade, successful prior teaching or student teaching experience, knowledge of N.Y.S. Learning Standards, collaborative team member, and technologically proficient.
Preferred Credentials:
Knowledge of Committee on Special Education process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal writing, implementation and progress monitoring. General knowledge of elementary and secondary curriculum and instruction. Experience with providing special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth in the least restrictive environment. Experience with developing and/or modifying curriculum, preparing lessons and providing specially designed instruction to address individual student needs. Experience with establishing and maintaining open communication with parents, students, teachers and other relevant stakeholders.
Salary/Benefits:
$200/day with Bachelor's Degree; $215/day with
Master's Degree Starting Date:
September 8 through December 2, 2026
