A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Job Description

A Child's Place at Unity House of Troy is seeking passionate and qualified Master's Level Special Education Teachers (Birth-Grade 2 certified) to join our welcoming Special Education Department. We are looking for a special education teacher to join our co-teaching model in an integrated setting. Our program strives to provide diverse, curriculum driven opportunities for identified children to learn along side their peers. Salaried Monday - Friday 35hrs/week
Qualifications:
Master's Degree in
Special Education NYS Certification:
Students with Disabilities, Birth-Grade 2 Proficient writing and computer skills Ability to implement and adapt behavior support plans Reliable transportation & valid NYS driver's license
Key Responsibilities:
Assess developmental and educational needs of preschoolers with special needs Design and implement individualized, evidence-based instruction Perform student assessment and evaluation required Adapt behavioral plans accordingly Work with a supportive multi-disciplinary team Collaborate with all staff, teachers, therapists, administrators and families to benefit the children served Create inclusive, supportive classroom environments Conduct evaluations and maintain required documentation Promote a classroom of inclusion and belonging
