A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

What You'll Do:
Works under general direction and requires considerable knowledge of teacher education Provides instruction in graphic arts and individual assistance Assesses educational needs of inmate Develops lesson plans to address those needs to include individual assignments and training Provides instruction and individual assistance Administers, scores, and interprets examinations and proficiency indicators Maintains discipline and/or security Counsels' students concerning their performance, behavior and/or personal problems. Attends meetings as required Prepares required records and re-ports (e.g., enrollment, grades, student progress) Inventories and orders supplies and materials needed Researches, selects, and recommends new teaching materials.
